Selena
She was a performer, artist creator, performer and also broke boundaries in the music world. She was simultaneously traditional and modern, a Mexican American who brought the two worlds in an unique way. The tragic loss of her life shattered her growing popularity and, like many times when a glowing, charming singer dies too young, it caused many to grieve her unrealized potential. Her fans have worked even harder to keep in mind what she's accomplished. Her tragic death in a shooting provoked a response from the Latino Community, similar with the reactions to the death of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. Selena was a wildly well-known singer for Latinos across North America. But her music touched both the young and old. Selena was a hot glamorous performer on stage who was sometimes called the Latina Madonna. In her off-stage life, Selena was also a strong role model as she actively participated in antidrug and AIDS campaigns.
